Therapeutic/Deep Tissue Massage

Therapeutic massage focuses on specific muscle groups relating to a client's tension/pain or injury. Manipulation of the skeletal muscles and connective tissue is used to realign muscles, relieve chronic muscle tension and correct damage from muscular injuries. We have many layers of muscles in our body which all have the potential to become stressed under everyday pressure. When a muscle is tense it can cause pain in its direct area or it can radiate pain to other parts of the body. A deep tissue massage concentrates on releasing and relaxing these muscles to alleviate any pain. This type of massage can be painful (usually described as 'good pain' by clients) however effective communication is used to keep any pain produced from the massage well within the client's comfort levels.

Sports Massage

There are different types of massage within sports massage; the type performed depends on the stage the athlete is at in their training or their event. Pre-event phase is performed from two days to within minutes before the event, it uses fast pace techniques to help prepare the most important muscles for the athlete's event. The techniques warm the muscles to enhance muscle flexibility and reduce the chance of muscular injury. The inter-event phase is used between events such as heats and tournament games.

It is designed to enhance the removal of any wastes produced by the muscles such as lactic acid, and prepare the muscles to perform again using the techniques from pre-event phase. Post-event phase is performed as soon after the event as possible to enhance the effects of the massage. It is slower paced to remove built up metabolic wastes and reduce the effects of sore muscles the next day. Rehabilitation/training and conditioning phase work with the athlete and their program to relieve any injuries, lessen the chance of further injuries and enable the athlete to train harder and more consistently.

Pregnancy Massage

We know that with the wonderful gift of pregnancy comes a range of uncomfortable side effects such as:

  • Aches and pains
  • Cramp
  • Swollen hands and feet
  • Fatigue
  • Stress
  • Insomnia

Weight gain in the front of the body causes mothers to lean back which changes your centre of gravity placing greater stress on your lumbar spine bringing about sore and achy lower backs.

A relaxing pregnancy massage can help ease those stressed muscles and bring back a balance to your body during this exhilarating time. A massage also helps to:

  • Steady your pulse and blood pressure
  • Help with regular blood flow to the uterus, placenta and foetus
  • Reduce fear and anxiety
  • Improve your energy levels
  • Help to ease built up fluid in your lower limbs
  • Activate the parasympathetic nervous system to reduce stress

At Bureta Physiotherapy we can perform the massage while you sit on a comfortable massage chair. Also with the marvellous addition of a holo to our massage table, you will be able to blissfully lie on your stomach and chest again, while your lower back is comfortably supported.

Maternity massage is safe and effective for women with uncomplicated, low risk pregnancies. Written consent from your mid-wife or doctor is needed for any women with high risks such as cardiac, pulmonary or liver disorders; chronic hypertension and previous pregnancy problems. It is not recommended to have massage during the 1st Trimester (1st 12 weeks) of pregnancy as this is quite a sensitive stage of your pregnancy journey and the risk of premature labour/miscarriage is a lot greater. If you have any worries or questions just give us a ring.

Corporate Massage

Let us bring massage to you. Corporate massage is a great way to make your staff feel appreciated and acknowledged while at the same time decreasing their workplace stress and injuries. Repetitive activities such as constantly typing, sitting in the same position and lifting incorrectly can put your muscles under greater stress which brings about common workplace injuries; such as tension headaches, carpel tunnel and pain in the neck, shoulders and back. On-site massage targets those common injury-prone areas and relaxes the muscle tension to decrease the risk of injury. The massages are tailored for each individual depending on where their problem areas are, it is followed up by suggestions and stretches for keeping these areas relaxed and stress free.
